The things worth knowing before you start.

Including the answers that might put you off. It is better to find out here than three weeks in.

What Pocketview is

Do I have to connect my bank?
No. Pocketview holds the plan you write, not a copy of your bank. You tell it what each account holds today and what you have coming, and it keeps the dates and the balances from there. Nothing reads your bank, which also means there are no bank credentials here to lose.
Is this a budgeting app?
No. It does not sort your spending into categories to judge it, and it will not tell you that you spent too much on coffee. It answers a different question: on the day this bill lands, is the money there.
How is it different from my spreadsheet?
It is your spreadsheet, kept honest. The same running balance down the page, the same sheet per rhythm, the same monthly tick list - except the arithmetic recalculates itself when you move something, and it never quietly adds two accounts together.
What do I have to do to get started?
Say what each account holds today, then add the payments you already know about. The runway is readable from the first few, and it gets sharper as you add the rest.

Using it day to day

Does Pocketview pay my bills?
No. It plans the day a payment happens; you send the money from your bank the way you always have. It is the sheet you check before you pay, not a hand on your account.
What if I do not know the amount yet?
Put in your best guess and it carries an estimate mark, so a guess never reads back to you as a fact. When the real figure arrives, replace it.
What if a bill has no date yet?
It stays in the list as work to plan rather than disappearing into a corner. A cost you cannot place is still a cost, and the sheet says so until you give it a day.
What happens when I move a payment?
Every balance after it recalculates immediately. That is the whole point: you move one thing and watch whether the row that was red goes black.
What about a big yearly bill I cannot pay out of one month?
Give it a set-aside plan and it becomes a small monthly amount you tick off. Money you have already put by stops counting as free to spend from the moment you tick it, not on the day the bill lands.

Sharing and privacy

Can I use it with my partner?
Not on the free plan. Sharing itself is built in - a shared book is visible to everyone in it, your own book stays yours on your own login, and sharing one book never opens another - but sending the invite is a Plus capability, and Plus is not on sale. A book for the money you share can be kept on your own login today; letting your partner into it is the part that is not free. What is on Free and what is on Plus
Can I keep business money separate?
Yes. A business gets its own book beside your own and any shared ones, and never blends into them. A business can run short while the rest of your money is fine, and you would want to know that.
Does everyone see the same numbers?
Everyone you share a book with sees that book. Nobody sees your own book but you.

Practical questions

Which currencies does it work in?
Pocketview is multi-currency. Keep a book in euros, in dollars, or in whatever the account it describes is actually held in, and every figure, date and number format follows the language and region you use.
Is there a phone app?
Yes, for iPhone and Android. Five tabs on the same books the web app reads: what is ready to spend, the month as a checklist or a calendar, the regular expenses, seven charts and the balance sheets. It is the same records over the same API, so a bill ticked off on the phone is the row your laptop reads. What the phone app does
What does it cost?
Nothing. The free plan is the whole app apart from three things: you can keep five upcoming costs open at a time rather than any number, a cost paid in instalments is not on it, and neither is inviting someone into a book you own. Those three are Plus, which has no price and is not on sale. No card to enter, and no trial counting down.Free and Plus, side by side
